With that, she pushed out a suitcase from the corner and made for the door.

Chen Xu followed her, “Where are you going?”

Chen Ziqi ignored him, “It’s none of your business.”

“That won’t do, you can’t leave before your dad comes back.” Chen Xu blocked her way.

She let go of the suitcase, glaring at him angrily, “Go ahead, tie me up if you dare.”

Chen Xu was genuinely troubled; this stubborn girl seemed really difficult, and he couldn’t exactly use force, or who knows what she might do. These rebellious teens, once they go wild, rarely consider the consequences.

He thought for a moment and decided to try a calm and rational talk, “Alright, what do you want?”

“I don’t want to see Old Chen,” Chen Ziqi set her terms.

Chen Xu neither agreed nor disagreed, “What else?”

“I want to live outside for a few days.”

“Are you not going to school?”

“Let Old Chen ask for leave for me.”

Seeing that she was serious, Chen Xu frowned, “What about your studies? You have the high school entrance exam next year. This is a crucial time.”

“I don’t care. I won’t go to school until Old Chen breaks up with that woman. Don’t even think about sending me to school—I could sneak out the moment you turn your head. Then, I’ll run away from home.”

He asked, “Where do you plan to stay?”

Chen Ziqi said as if it were obvious, “Your place, of course.”

“My place?” Chen Xu felt like he was being implicated unjustly, “I only have one room; it’s not big enough for two people.”

Chen Ziqi wrinkled her nose and said, “You think I want to live at your place? If I went anywhere else, Old Chen would worry. Otherwise, I could stay in a hotel, but do you have the money?”

Chen Ziqi turned and marched back to her room, with her head held high.

“Wait.” Chen Ziqi took out a set of car keys and said, “Here.”

“What’s this for?”

“What do you think, you expect me to take all this stuff on the bus?” Chen Ziqi gave him a disdainful look, “Drive my dad’s car, it’s parked across the street.”

When Chen Xu arrived at his rental building in the evening, after moving the stuff upstairs, he took Chen Ziqi back down.

“Dinner.”

“Why not drive?”

After crossing two streets, they reached a snack street. It was just dark, and many stalls were already set up.

Chen Xu ignored her and kept walking until they reached the very end of the alley, where a store had its roller shutter half-open, with a “For Transfer” sign on the wall.

There were four or five tables in front of the store.

After sitting down, Chen Xu asked, “Boss, are you transferring the shop?”
